Blue and Black Marlin are now frequently caught off the east coast of Australia. From Cairns, Sydney, and Port Stephens, Marlin are frequently caught off the coast of Queensland; however, in terms of sheer quantity, Marlin fishing on the Gold Coast and especially around Main Beach is the number one spot.
The Great Barrier Reef is the only known breeding ground for Black Marlin, making eastern Australia one of the most popular Black Marlin fishing spots in the world. Cairns, located on Australia's northeast coast, is home to the World Capital of Marlin Fishing and attracts anglers from September through December to try their hand at hooking a Marlin.
The Black Marlin, a large predatory fish that can reach enormous lengths and weights of up to 1,900 pounds (831 kg), is an exotic species that has been described as the “holy grail” for anglers. Its range extends from New Zealand's North Island to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia's northern regions.
Marlin are also prevalent throughout the western coast of Australia, with Exmouth, Broome, and Rottnest Island off Perth all significant and productive Marlin fishing grounds.
A stunning Marlin hotspot may be found a mere 1200 miles from Australia to the east: Vanuatu, a chain of 80 beautiful islands in the South Pacific. Blue Marlin fishing is available all year round in this paradise, although it's best between May and November. Blue Marlin can be found at the same time as Striped Marlin, and both are excellent from August through November.
